When the email came in about Art Every Day Month I got excited. I haven’t participated in many a moon & the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
So, for my first day’s entry, I wanted to share a couple of things I’m working on.
The first is a ridiculous crown & scepter for one of my Sisters in Lunch (for those of you new to my orbit, I work in a vocational school cafeteria a.k.a. The Land of Lunch). You can read a bit of the backstory on how this all started here. She has no idea that I’m making this. Hee hee hee.
I did not know that you could order faux corn kernels & that they are used for fishing. Those flies crack me up! I’ll make brown gravy using Mod Podge & whatever appropriate brown acrylic paint I have on hand. That’s the vision anyway.
Don’t ask where I get these ideas. I’m beginning to think this is how it works: Various stimuli enter my brain & are supposed to be stored in the appropriate file sections. However, the person in charge of filing throws it all into the “For Creative Use Only” file. This means that instead of a logical a to b to c journey of where that idea came from, it’s more of a mish-mash that’s up-chucked like yesterday’s stew into my consciousness. The other theory is that my muses are like The Graeae (From Greek mythology these three sisters shared one eye & one tooth between them. Their names are Deino (dread), Enyo (horror) & Pemphredo (alarm)) with the unholy mix of humor similar to Sophia from The Golden Girls & Elka from Hot in Cleveland. Those are my current theories after trying to answer the commonly asked question of, “Where do you come up with this stuff?”
I’m also working on a set of Gourd Trouble dolls for college-age kiddo & I to work with. They’re going to be used similar to Guatemalan Worry Dolls only for adults. Plus, they’ll be far too delicate & large to place under one’s pillow. The Bun’s has been quite vocal about looks, colors & hair. The picture below is the head for Bun’s Gourd Trouble. Mine, on the other hand, has been loud & clear that the face is going to be ridiculous. Sigh.

I’m really looking forward to the creative journey this month!
