Job's Tears and Squidoo
I created a Squidoo lens called The Joy of Gourds!
It's designed to provide helpful links and information on dried gourds. Please stop by, sign the guestbook and rate it.

Do you know what this is a picture of?

Okay, let's try this view...

It's my future gourd crop! The gourd seeds I started took off like gangbusters. Last count was twenty plants. Woo hoo!
And can you guess what this plant is?

It's called Job's Tears. They are a member of the grass family and related to corn. Why oh why would I be growing something like that? You can make beads from the seeds! The seeds can be stained and are ready for threading.
These two sites offer a ton of information about this really cool plant!
Wayne's World Palomar College Arboretum
I discovered them in 2006 at the Ohio Gourd Show. A vendor was selling them in dried bunches and allowed the kids to pick up the fallen seeds from the floor. I placed them in a safe place and for the longest time they remained safe. I seemd to find them after the planting season passed. I found them in time this year! I was also told Job's Tears will spread so we will plant them in a couple of spots where they will have room.
There is another benefit to growing Job's Tears. You can eat them! I wonder if I can find some recipes...
Have a Wonder-Filled day and enjoy the journey!
